I have 4 pullets, 4 guineas, and 5 chickens. The pullets are in their own coop and playyard, the older ones do have a playyard as well and free range during the day. My 2 baby marans are now 12 weeks old, I have raised them since 1 week old. My little girl (that's what I call her) started showing symtoms upper respiratory problems (sneezing, discharge from nose, watery & red eyes, the vet prescribed Albon for the 4 pullets. The other 2 birds who are not my marans, I got them from a swap meet (yes, I know not the best place). My 2 marans looked like they were getting better.....their eyes were not droopy or red anymore and the sneezing pretty much stopped.
I gave them the Albon in their water Monday afternoon and still using it today. ! ounce per gallon of water. Yesterday aftenoon when I went down there to play with them, they were jumping all over me as usual, playing, running around and just fine. This morning, my favorite little girl, was lying down, one eye shut, listless, runny diarreaha (? sp), just pretty much wanting to be alone. It seems hard to believe that 12 hours ago she was fine and now she's not.
They are and have always been on medicated chick starter. I looked up symtoms for Mareks and coccidosis but those don't fit. I do know, however, that when they were in the playyard, they were chasing bugs, and apparantly they stuck their beaks in poo to get a bug, because I saw it on their beaks later when I came for a visit, that was 2 days ago,,,maybe that has something to do with it??
What can I do to help her? I cannot stand the thought of losing her, she has always been the one to want to sleep on my lap, and just stay with me and "talk" all the time...she was always so talkative. Please advise....I do have tylan on hand but I would think that would be too much since she's been drinking the medicated water.
Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks.
