LOL I see that you guys are having the same problem I am with him. One second I think he is one thing then WHAMMO he can't possibly be that and must be this instead...nope that's wrong too.

I know there is one person on here that is going to click this and go " I know exactly what that is!!" Thank you to those that have gave him a look. I got the first part of the breed though. It is a beautiful _________.

The way his wings kinda hang alittle low and white feet I'd guess Black-breasted game cross, the big head and comb poss. RIR maybe? Pretty boy though. I have a similar colored roo a little darker red in neck and back with same black body he's Prod. Red male X Black Australorp female. Don't have pics. yet but I'll post some soon.

If you look on the feathersite website on the Marans page, there's a picture almost identical to this guy about halfway down the page--light legs and everything. Thanks to everyone for the input on my new roo. I guess he's got a bunch of us stumped.

He does look like that Black Copper Maran rooster on feathersite. Wait and see what color eggs he lays.

Well if he lays a chocolate colored egg you will know for sure he is a Maran but if he lays a green or blue egg then that sucker is a cross and I bet he makes a dandy bowl of soup!

So she was given this roo? Any idea where it came from...like hatchery or breeder? I dunno if people just give away BC Marans....

I would guess he is a mixed breed....

We just killed 7 beautiful roosters yesterday evening, no mutts in the bunch. If I had had someone to give them to (like Birdbrains), I would have. I can completely believe getting a pure breed from someone. If it was a HEN, I might blink, but roosters? Nah.
