Hello,
Anyone out there with experience dealing with Town Zoning Ordinances? I live in very rural Bolton, CT and purchased four chicks last year.
A non chicken friendly neighbor endlessly complains to the Zoning Office starting what I refer to as the "chicken wars".
Bolton Zoning States 6.A.10 Keeping of livestock or poultry for domestic purposes only. A site plan review shall be required if more than three (3) head of livestock and/or twenty (20) head of poultry.
a. The lot or parcel upon which one livestock or 20 head of poultry and kept or pastured shall have a minimum area of two (2) acres. Note:
I have received certified letters from Bolton's Zoning Officer stating I am violating the Zoning Ordinances and must Cease and Desist.
Bolton's Town Attorneys are threatening legal action I do not comply with the cease and desist.
Can anyone explain to me how I am in violation of this ordinance? I am college educated and for the life of me I can not understand why the Zoning Officer states he "interprets" the ordinance as not allowing any chicken unless you have two acres. Are ordinances to be read "as written" or "interpreted" at will?
I look forward to any assistance on this matter.
Thank you,
The Bolton Chicks-Girtruid, Agnes, Maddy and Lisa
