Please help!

Here is what I think, 1st, I think you should watch this video.. It is hilarious, but actually true!!!
2nd go voluenteer at a animal rescue/ bird rescue and get educated. Then rescue a wonderful animal.. That way you will know for sure what will work for you & you will get to have people in your area that can help you be successful pet owner..Plus you will be doing the animal a fabulous favor.. If we didn't have all of our wonderful animal helpers, we would have large vet bills.. You don't want that.. Keep us posted.. And enjoy the video

Okay thank you everyone. I think we'll probably just wait and get some sort of indoor bird. I just called the HOA and they said that free range would be okay if we can get the neighbors to say okay since we've lived here for awhile. Unfortunately one of our neighbors said no. Thank you for all the help though!

Yes, the free-ranging would only make it worse in a HOA. The birds would be all over other people's property and end up getting eaten by predators, hit by cars, etc. If no one takes responsibility for them, Animal Control will just come in and kill them all, simple as that.

Pooping on hard scape, wrecking flower beds, laws etc, pooping on cars, scratching cars, going in houses, etc... Many people have a zero tolerance for livestock on their property. Around here, animals are often shot or trapped.

Hi everyone,
I am looking into getting some outdoor birds that don't need a coop. We are thinking ducks, but we have coyotes and raccoons, plus birds of prey. Is there any kind of duck that isn't too loud and will not get eaten by predators?
Thank you!
There is no such thing as outdoor birds that do not need a coop. A coop is the same thing as a pen, a house, a cage, etc. Outdoor birds of all types need the overnight protection the an enclosed covered shelter provides. If you are in an area with serious HOA restrictions I would suggest that you give up on the idea of any sort of outdoor bird. They are all, to varying degrees, messy, noisy and not at all easy to hide. I saw that someone suggested a peacock...there is no louder bird available for humans to own. Ducks quack, need a constant source of water and make a smelly mess unless you seriously commit to daily maintenance. If you have nighttime predators then you probably also have daytime predators. Any animal you commit to the care of must have safe shelter as part of that commitment or give up on it and head off in another direction.
