My silkie hen has been sat on her eggs (only 3) and one has pipped today, all the way through she has shuffled her nest about sometimes leaving eggs and letting them get cold which is why she only has 3 now, I have checked her this morning she was sat on them, checked her a couple of hours later and she has shuffled across leaving her eggs not sat on, and one has pipped!! I'm worried that the air getting to the egg will affect the chick hatching?? I have no idea what to do she is sat back on them at the moment but has the damage already been done? Any help appreciated!! Thankyou

Hopefully the chick has hatched by now. If the egg was not uncovered for too long, there is a very good chance that the chick will hatch. You may want to consider using a small diameter but deeper nesting box so the hen is not able to constantly shift her nest. My silkie tends to do that too, but always has her eggs covered. Your silkie's eye sight might be impaired by her top knot. Trimming these feathers when she is brooding may help her be able to see those eggs that are not covered.

I can hear cheaping but not seen the chick yet hopefully soon, yes I definitely won't let her brood in that nest box again as it was too long and gave her opportunity to move about and thanks for the advice I never thought about her not being able to see due to her fluff (a good thing for me to remember) hopefully there will be a fluffy chick in the morning

You're welcome. So glad to read that the chick hatched.
