I am hatching Rhode Island Reds and I only got one eggs the first day, will it be safe for that one chick to be by itself (for aleast a day) until the others hatch?

! Happy you joined us! Do you have a brooder with a heat lamp, water, and food set up? You could always put it in there. But day old chicks get sent through the mail all the time and survive so I would assume yours would be fine. Others may have other opinions. You might also post in the link here: https://www.backyardchickens.com/f/5/incubating-hatching-eggs

Thanks! But I am not getting them shipped they are at my school. So the first hatch an a day later the others will come, so my real question is will it die if it doesn't have any friends. If so I need to know how to help it as much as possible!

Welcome!

As redsoxs has mentioned, we will need to know if the chick is in a brooder with a heat lamp, water and food. If it is, it should survive but it will be lonely until the others hatch.

You may want to consider giving it a cuddy toy to snuggle up to and a mirror which can help with lonely chicks.

Good luck!

I hope you enjoy being a BYC member. There are lots of friendly and very helpful folks here so not only is it overflowing with useful information it is also a great place to make friends and have some fun. Unlike non chicken loving friends, family and colleagues, BYC’ers never tire of stories or pictures that feature our feathered and non feathered friends

I think it will be okay until another hatches. But, you may want to ask on one of the hatching threads going on now. Usually a chick loose in the hatcher bumping into eggs&* chirping,
encourages others to hatch.

Good luck with the rest of your hatch, hope the little guy has some company soon!
