Please help!!

Ok, so I have 2 ducks (both are hens) and they are both about 2-3 months old. I keep them in a pen with my chickens. I do have a big pond in the back of my house and so I let them go and swim for a while in the big pond. As they were swimming... 2 wild ducks fly by and one of them grabbed one of my girls by the neck and tried to mate with her. I'm so upset. I ran towards the pond and they broke up probably at about 10seconds. Could this have hurt her since she is so young? Could the drake actually have mated her? I feel awful. (New duck owner)

Welcome to BYC!

From my experience, drakes are very clumsy when trying to mate with the ducks, and spend a while trying to mount them before actually 'doing the deed'. I'm pretty sure that you broke them up before he could do anything.... Try not to worry .

If he actually bred her? You would of heard her give a loud honk/Quack and she would of shook herself off...Keep them off the pond till after breeding season or they get more mature.......Poor little Duckling...
