Please help.

I have had a pair of Peking ducks ( male and female) for a little over a year. Last night my male was killed by a raccoon. My girl is all alone, except for when she's out with my chickens during the day. Would you recommend getting another duck? If so can I get another breed to keep with her (I'm thinking Rouen),can I get a girl instead of a boy? Any tips would be greatly appreciated.

I'm so sorry about your loss! U can adopt, but what about letting her sit on some fertile eggs and experience the mom life? U can buy fertile eggs on eBay or look around locally. Just an idea....

So sorry for your loss! Yes, you can get another duck of any breed/gender if you are wanting another duck companion. Just keep introductions slow and mellow. Other option would be wait and see how she does with just the chickens. She could be perfectly happy. Many others will probably disagree with that but I've known ducks to be perfectly happy with chickens...I've also known well meaning pairings of adult ducks to go horribly wrong....or go swimmingly! If it were me I'd wait and see for a bit.

Ducks love other Ducks....They can be with other breeds...Two Hens will be fine...
I would get another Duck....
