so last night i went to close the coop door but there was a hen gone i looked all over for her and the next morning i looked every were i and i found her she had fell in a tite spot on her back and could not get out i did get her out but one of her toes are off when she was trying to get out i dont know what to do with the toe im about to put some neosporin in it and rap it up she is in the coop while the others free range and she has her own water and feeder any tips are alcome thanks to all

Oh no!
Can you post some photos of the foot?
Is the toe completely off, or is it hanging?

You can gently cleanse the toe/foot in warm soapy water, diluted betadine or flush it with saline. Apply the Neosporin and wrap it lightly like you mentioned. Keeping her activity limited for a day - if you have a dog crate to keep her in that would be good so you can keep a watch on her.

Since she was out all night (upside down?) watch to see that she is drinking well - if you have some poultry vitamins like Poultry Nutri-Drench, put some of those in her water to give her a boost. Once she's drinking well, offer her food and a treat of a chopped egg for protein.

Keep us posted.

the toe is off and you can see the bone we have already rapped it we dont know how long she was in there before dark she is drinking i have not seen her eat yet she just sits i did put apple cider vinegar in her water with the mother in it i dont have a dog crate but i shut the door in the coop so the others that are free ranging cant mess with her i will put the others in tonight this is my first flock so dont know to much thanks for your help

If she was trapped for a while, then she's probably exhausted and dehydrated. As long as she is drinking, that's good, you want her hydrated before she eats anyway. You can make her feed available free choice.

Since you can see the bone of the toe(?) you will want to make sure it stays wrapped, clean and dry. If you have a vet that can assist you, that is best. Monitor it closely for signs of infection - red, hot tissue, pus and/or odors or if your girl becomes lethargic.

Please keep us posted.

She is doing a little better and is walking I’m go to Chang the rap to day is there any thing else I can put on it there is some stuff that is stuck to the skin and I don’t want to hurt her be pulling it off I will get some pics for you thanks so much :frow:fl:)

I'm glad to hear she is doing better.

What is stuck to the skin? Is it tape/wrap? If so, then you may want to either soak the foot in warm soapy water or you can apply a little mineral oil to the take to help loosen it.

I don’t know what is stuck to the food it’s black will soapy water hurt her foot will putting the foot in soapy waters hurt her and the thing that is stuck was on there before I rapped it I think it might be dirt thanks

Photos are always helpful:D

It may hurt, but if it's poop/dried blood or dirt that is stuck to the foot it needs to be cleaned well since she lost the toe and you mentioned you can see the bone. You don't want infection to set in.

Warm soapy water, diluted betadine or chlorhexidine can be used to soak and cleanse the foot. You may need to gently scrub out any debris with a soft brush. I know it sounds harsh, but that's what they do in the ER to scrub out wounds - I've had it done to me, don't feel good at all, but necessary.

Take your time and let her rest/relax while you're cleaning her up - this is easier on you and her. If you have a helper that would be good too.

Depending on the severity of the break/loss and how much bone you see, you might want to start her on antibiotics to help prevent infection. You can find Penicillin at most feed stores like Tractor Supply (look in the refrigerated section).

thanks i forgot to get a photo when i unrapped the foot and rerapped it next time i will get a photo and thanks i will go to tsc and look and i will wash the foot there is dried blood on the foot and i would like to clean it so it will not get infected and i dont want her to get bubble foot thanks for all your help i will try to get a photo tomorrow
