My chicks are not eating the grit. I was wondering if I could put some grit in my feed?

Grit tends to sink to the bottom of the feed as it is heavier...offer in a separate bowl. They have a natural knowledge that they need to eat it. Mind you, it might not be a lot to notice, but I bet they will

I do usually sprinkle a little on their food to get them started, and a little more around where they'll scratch around and pick it up if they want it.

I just put mine in an a little bowl. They figure it out ^_^ but I have sprinkled on food in the past too. I believe both are just fine ^_^
