Hello! First post here.. I thought my hen had been molting... and maybe she has. I’ve seen the other hens casually pecking the feathers off, but today, I came home to this. Do I separate her? I know there’s an ointment.. will that keep the others away? I only have three hens in a 100 sq ft run. Any help is appreciated!

1. Separate her.
2. Put Neosporin, hydrogen peroxide, and/or any other antibacterial ointment on it.
3. Top with Blu Kote or baking flour to prevent pecking.
4. They may be low on protein. Try switching to a chicken food with a higher percentage of protein.
5. They may be bored. Try hanging a cabbage for them to jump to, or freezing their favorite treats in water and hanging that up.

I hope she gets better!

Thank you!! I basically just got done doing all that except separating her... I really have nowhere to put her. Tomorrow I’m going to find her a chicken saddle. It’s really a strange behavior. They don’t seem to be picking on her but picking at her molting feathers. The one who’s second on the pecking order was doing it to the main hen’s molting feathers as well. But as I was watching, they seemed to have been focusing on the bloody area. Luckily her area in the coop is on a roost above the other two.
