First time chicken owner.
17 week barnyard mix Pullet.

It looks like a Shellless egg under her roost this morning.

Was quite lethargic for about 20-30 minutes after. Now she is moving around just fine.

But she did have a poop that looks a bit slimy - see photo.

Her comb has never really reddened either.

I checked her feathers and vent area. I don’t see any signs of bugs or swelling or redness.

Any thoughts on the comb and lethargy / if I should be concerned about the poop?

Thank you!

Just in case of parasites there are natural remedies that work rather quickly. One capful per gallon water of apple cider vinegar(must be organic). Feed your chickens herbs too. Oregano, is good. You can even use baking oregano. Get natural oats, put natural honey with oregano in. Use filtered or distilled water. You should see improvement. Feed the chickens watermelon. Rinds are good, spinach, just no tomatoes. No green potatoes(only cooked spuds).

Oh, you can also bathe chickens in a lukewarm vinegar(white vinegar bath). This gets rid of parasites), and if you see leg mites. Wash them with dish soap, then coat their legs with Vaseline. It will make it so it’s too slippery to climb. Clean the coop. Do not use Clorox or any chlorine derivatives. These kill birds. Use vinegar if necessary. Spritz. Clean up all droppings(these can be bagged for fertilizer(old chicken food bags are good for this). Shredded paper makes great bedding, and can be recycled into your flower beds.

The beige bit in the first photo is a soft shelled egg. Are they getting a layer feed or an all-flock with oyster shell on the side? It's not abnormal for newly laying hens to lay funky eggs.

They are getting layer feed with a dish of crushed egg shells on the side.

Our hyline brown also laid a shellless egg for her first two days, so I am hoping this is just that again.

Does her comb look bad? How bout that poop?

Hi there!
Shellless eggs are completely normal for brand new layers.
If you are feeding the layer type feed now you're doing a good job. Make sure you're not feeding daily treats and everything should work itself out within a few days.

Brand new layers need a little bit of practice before they can make an egg perfectly sometimes.

Please do not feed your birds oats or vinegar.
Vinegar inhibits the absorption of calcium which will cause problems.

Kitchen scraps are not a good idea either because they take away from the bird getting a balanced diet.
Balanced diet is the layer feed only.
It is formulated to be a balanced diet and when you start adding in all of this extra stuff you're taking away from a balanced diet and you will have problems.

She has me confused. 😂

So the day after I posted, I found a fairy egg.

And today we found a bigger egg of the same colour.

So she’s definitely working out her eggs…

But her comb is still pale - ish (it has never got fully red), and I did find blood in some poop yesterday. Not sure whose poop it was, but it scared me enough to call the vet.

So, long story short… everyone is on medication for 3 weeks just in case.

She SEEMS okay though…. Been walking around being bossy as usual. So I’m hopeful! Will update in a few weeks.
