Please help :(

This is so awesome you’re amazing! I am going to the store tomorrow and changing A LOT! I’m so glad you told me about the medicated feed because I kept seeing a lot of different opinions but your explanation to why it’s not good makes so much sense!! Thank you Thank you Thank you!!! I feel like I’ve learned the most right now in these threads today and that my babies have a good chance, I will keep you all updated on their condition and how everything is going!
Glad I was able to help. :) Also a key thing is to make sure they have plenty of ventilation, that helps reduce/eliminate moisture also. I put hardware cloth lids on my large plastic brooder tubs so the top is basically open wire mesh. I brood in my garage, and the lids also keep out most random unwanted vermin.

One thing I did want to clarify, medicated feed is not bad. It's a valid choice for many people, although I chose not to use it. If I remember correctly, the idea behind medicated feed is that a small amount of amprolium (or other chemical/substance that has a similar effect, I forget) is formulated into the feed, so it takes the edge off of things when they become exposed to coccidiosis, and reduces some of the coccidiosis load so the chicks can build immunity without their systems being overcome. I assume it works most of the time, or they wouldn't sell it? But for some chicks, their systems become overwhelmed in spite of the medication in the feed, so for those chicks CORID is used, which is a much higher dosage than what's in the feed, to help them recover. Once the CORID dosing is stopped, the chicks are re-exposed to coccisdiosis and are fine because they have an immunity and are strong enough to fight it off. The recommendation on here is to do one or the other - feed medicated feed OR feed unmedicated and treat directly for coccidiosis (using CORID) if it appears. Either the medicated feed is unneeded or you don't want the interactions when using CORID, I forget which, so unmedicated feed is used when dosing with CORID.

There's a lot of info on here about these topics, I hope I'm remembering correctly. A number of folks believe that the dosage of amprolium in the medicated feed is too low to do much of anything, so they choose to use unmedicated feed and treat with CORID if necessary. It's not always necessary. This is the route I took, but I'm not an expert in this subject. I wanted to use higher protein feed to grow out my chicks (20%) and they didn't have medicated feed in that protein level at my feed store in the brand I wanted to use.

Is this normal? I have meat birds and one of them doesn't seem to be looking to good. Please look at this picture and tell me what I need to do. Thanks

If you haven't already, I'd clean up the area a bit to see if you can figure out where the blood is coming from. You can spray with Veteryicin or apply Blu-kote on the clean wound. Or you can put Neosporin (Original, NOT pain relief) on twice a day until it heals.

Once the blood is gone/not visible, it should be okay to reintroduce her.

Thanks very much for the info🙂

Hello everyone I have an update on the 3 other siblings of my chick that died.. they are doing good and seem to be improving since I added corid (they never showed signs of issues like their brother did but they were losing weight) now they are maintaining weight still a bit skinny and it seems color is returning to their face but I am not sure if it’s still good. What do you think about their pale beak? They are amerucanas but I still feel like this is pale opinions?
