Chicken is acting lethargic this morning, didn’t want to come out of the coop and uninterested in eating. She’s also hanging out by herself only. Got her to take a couple sips of water but that’s it.
Her vent looks clean but she seems to kind of be pulsating it? I attached a picture of her droppings. The white part of the droppings is gelatinous? Almost like egg white consistency.
I have no idea if she’s laid an egg or not within the last day as I have 8 layers currently.
Please advise!!!!

Hello sorry to hear about your chicken. How is she doing now? How old and what breed is she?

Can you give her some human calcium citrate plus d3 vitamin? Anywhere between 300-600mg. Just incase she is egg bound this will help her with laying.

How was her crop this morning? It should be flat first thing in the morning.

How does her abdomen feel? Check in between her legs sort of under her vent. Is it bulgy, like a water balloon? That could indicate reproductive issues making her feel bad. Those can be tough to diagnose and treat. Check and let us know.

I agree. It sounds like a possible reproductive problem. The calcium is a good idea. Make sure that she eats and drinks. You may want to observe her closely for the next couple of days to look for egg problems and to note her droppings. Post any pictures to help. Have you seen any soft or shell less eggs recently?

The only calcium supplements I have also have 500 mg of magnesium, 99 mg of potassium and 250 mg of phosphorus. Would that still be okay to give her?
I feel like yesterday morning her crop kind of felt like a small water balloon? Today it feels flatter.
I got her to eat some peas and yogurt. She doesn’t want the regular chicken feed. I have electrolyte water for her with ACV in it and some oregano oil too. Just trying to cover all bases?
I gave her an Epsom salt soak but no egg was laid. Still no egg this morning either.
I found an egg with a weak shell a couple weeks ago? But that was the only one. I have 7 other chickens who are laying too.
This is what her droppings still look like.

No don’t give the calcium if it has other supplements in it. How about tums? Do you have any tums? You can give tums instead.

Try wetting her chicken feed down into a mash with water. She might like that. Mine always think it’s a treat.

How old is she? Is she getting ready to molt? Sometimes things get glitchy when they get ready to molt.

The electrolytes in her water are okay, but I wouldn’t do ACV. I always rotate fresh water out with the electrolyte water every 24 hours so they get a chance at fresh water incase the taste of anything in the water is putting them off from drinking.

Yes I will give her some Tums then. Thank you.

I’ll try the mash as well. She isn’t interested in eating this morning it seems, even when offered more peas and some pumpkin seeds which my chickens usually love. I’ll try the mash though. And change her water to plain water today instead.

She is nearing 7 months old now.

Hopefully the tums help if she needs to lay and she comes around to eating.

Oh yes she probably wouldn’t molt this year. You said her crop was flat this morning?
