I had an egg hatch yesterday and I know the little chick needs some help but I am not sure what to do. When he pipped and started coming out of the egg there was lots of yellow fluid that came out to. I assume this is maybe some of the yolk? I believe that some of the yolk is still attached to him. Looks like yellow stringy glob of stuff around his bottom area. The membrane was dry and stuck on some of his feathers and wings. I got a wet warm rag and wrapped him in it and left him over night. Today when I went and checked on him he was out of the rag. He started chirping very loudly when he saw me

well part of the shell and membrane had dried on one of his feet and stuck to the bottom of the incubator. I cleaned off his foot and when I left he was trying to stand up but not quite getting it yet. I am hoping that he will be standing when I go back and check on him later. Now his feathers are dry but stuck to him. He never fluffed up. I am not even sure if he has all of his feathers! (the feathers on onside of his neck did dry and fluff up and he has some beautiful black and white markings!) What should I do to help him out? He came out of the egg around 12:00 pm yesterday (Friday) and he started pipping around 2 on Thursday.

Sorry I kind of rambled but wanted to make sure I mentioned everything. I will take a pic of him later and post it.

my first one hatched this past monday and it also had the long stringy thing, it eventually came off but it didn't seem like he completely puffed up till wed, it looked like something licked him down one side of his body, all puffed on one side all slick on the other lol i wasn't sure about it either but it is doing fine now.

If he still has yolk, I would try and wrap the bottom in a damp paper towel.

Once all the yolk is absorbed
you can carefully wash with semi warm water and then when he dries he should fluff up.

Sometimes these don't make it. Good luck.

Do you think he still has some membrane on him? If so, I would try to clean him up some more(in stages) with a warm wet rag. That maybe why his feathers are still stuck down.
As far as him standing-this is what I might try-give him some sugar water(or PolyViSol without iron) if he doesn't start perking up fairly soon. Or maybe try boiling an egg and mashing it up real fine for him. He may just need a bit of a boost to get going if he had a hard hatch.
Good luck to you!

I am not sure if it is the membrane on him or some of the liquid that was in the shell with him. I am planning on leaving him in incubator until tomorrow. Is it ok to feed him a little egg or sugar water while he is in there?

Just went to check on the little guy and he didn't make it.
