I chicken has somehow found it's way into my yard, I have asked neighbours and posted in the stores and nobody has claimed it, its been over a week now and have decided to keep it, ive read on the site what to feed and how to shelter and whatnot, but what I don't know is if it is a female or a male, or what breed. I would also like to know why its arse end is bare, it has a few feathers on its tail area but the rest all around it are missing and it is all red. thanks for any info,

It is a hen - probably a red sex link of some sort. She actually looks like a refugee from a battery egg production facility. Provide her protection from predators, and eventually she will reward you with eggs.

It appears to be a hen, and it looks like it's been picked by other chickens. Likely wandered off from someone's flock or was just dropped off. Looks like a sex-link

Thanks so much. she is starting to follow me and climbs my front stairs and sits outside my door. its cute. she will definitely have a good home with me.
