Please HELP

Hi all - I wrote a few days ago saying my goose had hatched, and checking on what to do with the other eggs -- several days later on advice from here, I candled the eggs - only one viable so I put it back and she has been sitting on it for a couple of days. --- Just now I looked out and thought the gander was stomping a rat/chipmunk etc in the yard in front of their house --- went out to investigate and it was a new gosling - still wet. I thought maybe he somehow got out of the house by mistake and tried to put him back but the gander and both geese attacked him again. I brought him in, put him in the bottom of my incubator (full of duck eggs) -- on the bottom shelf that's not turning. I don't know what to do now?????? help -help. Do you think there is any possiblity they will accept him once he is warm and dry??? is he safe in the incubator for a little while? I have had day old babies and can make up a brooder box for him, but I've never had just one so what do I need to do? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I don't know much about geese but if they are anything like a duck they probably won't accept the gosling. You are most likely going to have to fix it a brooder and place a shatter proof mirror in the box so it won't get lonley. Best of luck with your little one, I hope it pulls through.

How traumatic for the little one. I wonder what that was all about. anyway yes keep it in a brooder until it gets some strength then try to reintroduce being ready to rescue if need be. Maybe a couple days of so warmth food and rest it will be strong enough to join the family. And a mirror is a great idea along with a stuffed animal.to snuggle with.

Thanks for the reply Miss Lydia. Will it be ok in the incubator for 24-48 hours? it is on the bottom shelf that does not move. It is talking a lot, moving around a little, sleeping mostly. I don't have any stuffed animals but I put in a pair of socks rolled up that it is cuddling up to. I'm planning to separate the gander when I try to re-introduce him--does that sound like a good plan???

Is this gander the daddy? I find that strange that he would attack the gosling unless something don't know about happened. They have another gosling that hatched a couple days ago right? how that going? and wonder how it got outside and away from mom? socks old towel rolled up doesn't matter as long as it has something to cuddle with. and I don't see why keeping it in the bator over night would hurt might depend on the temp in the bator and it can get good air flow. Hopefully someone with more experience with bator and gosling staying in them will comment Glad to hear it's moving around and talking those are good signs.

Hi Miss Lydia - yes it is the daddy and has been wonderful with watching the other gosling while the goose continued to sit on the nest. He has also been quite aggressive in the past to moles, voles, chipmunks etc. (which is what I thought he was stomping when I first looked out). He has another goose that is also sitting and I have blocked her into her area just in case her eggs start to hatch, hopefully there will not be another case of confusion. Last year I incubated some of their eggs and they accepted the goslings very well at about a week - they had only successfully hatched one (not in the incubator).

It is one that has an air-flow so I'm hoping that is ok. He seems to be dry and fluffy now. Sleeping quite a lot. The temp in the incubator is about 99.8 and the humidity is about 50% -- thanks for any help.

I'm thinking the temp is too high and that maybe why it's sleeping so much. I really don't think I'd keep it in there any longer. around 85 is good for goslings. I sent your thread to GeeseALaying she uses an incubator hopefully she'll be here to help.
