One of my Easter Eggers was attacked by my dog. She lost the front inch or so of her right wing. Bleeding has stopped but the injury is quite severe. As a Paramedic, I'm pretty good at bandaging (humans lol), but have never bandaged anything avian. This pullet is my favorite one so I want to have hope she'll pull through and have no intention of giving up until shes dead or septic. She allows me to handle her without running or crying in pain. The wound has been cleaned blukote'd and wrapped in 4x4 gauze before being sealed in kerlix. Shes able to stand without the wrap but is off balance with it on and prefers to lay down. I plan on waiting a few days, unwrapping to reclean and allow exercise, then wrap again until she's with a little luck and love, healed. Please let me know what you think nd if anything send her love and prayers. Thank you.

I would leave the bandage off and her inside so she can stay clean. If the bleedin has stopped the bamdage isnt doin much good unless the wing is actually broken. If it is broken then fashion a light splint for it but wrap thinly not thick like you have this. Chickens heal quickly. I would add nurti drench to her water for extra vites and electrolytes or gatorade. Epsom salt soaks daily will help with soreness and cleanliness as well.

I know the wing is at least broken in the front. The pup took literally the whole first inch of the front wing off near the shoulder. I'll run and grab some nutri drench now. The other stuff I have available. Thank you!

I'm sorry I don't have any advice but I'm so sorry that happened! I hope she gets better. ❤

Then just wrap it lightly tucked into her body to keep it close and immobile. You also need check her really well for other puncture wounds.

She may not eat and drink well for a few days. Wet mash of feed and the drench water and scrambled eggs will be good for that. Make sure you see her drinkin... if not dropper it into her a small bit at a time often throughout the day and night. Drink is more important than food right now.

Vetricyn is an awesome cleaner disinfectant... i prefer this over bluekote. Blue kote makes everything blue and you cannot see redness and signs of infection. The vetricyn you can. When she is ready to go back out bluekote is fine if it is needed to keep the other birds from pickin at her wound.

Ok, the hope fairy is here! Unless that gets infected she will be fine, that looks bad but it really isn't. Just keep it clean, be very observent looking for infection due to dog mouths not being so clean and just baby her. She's not in shock, no other injuries so cheer up it's just a wing she'll never miss it.:)

I wouldnt use Blu Kote on the wound, it contains alcohol. Since you already cleaned and sanitized the wound, just apply neosporin as best as you can until healed.
I'd also get her started on amoxicillin. Dosage is one 250mg capsule once a day for 7 days. If there's a foul or rotting smell, make the dosage one 250mg capsule twice a day for 7 days.
Each capsule will have to be opened and the powder put in a bowl and mixed with 3 to 4cc's of water and stirred well. Then use a syringe without needle to withdraw the stirred mixture and administer the liquid orally, 1/2cc at time until the bowl is empty. Anything more than 1/2cc, there's risk that the liquid can go down the trachea causing her to aspirate, then there would be big trouble.
Here's a link where you can get amoxicillin, no script:

I would rinse the wound with normal saline daily. A MD friend of mine suggested a product called Medihoney. She has used it to heal decubiti that are longstanding and resistant to all other medical treatments. I would also wrap the wound with vaseline gauze, or use some other wet to dry type of dressing. Leaving it open to air will slow the healing process.
