please look at my chicken video

Thanks SpeckledHills, that was the info I was referring to that I couldnt quickly come up with (it was late last night too lol). Remember we talked about my tapeworm issue earlier this year? I found out Valbazen takes care of them as well as the Quest Plus and Zimectrin Gold of which I have all three lol. I no longer have a tapeworm problem! With the ivermectin pour on, I said 2 drops...that was using a regular eyedropper (bigger drops.) The 4 drops that SpeckledHills refers to is using a syringe w/ 25 ga needle to apply (smaller drops,) to the skin.

Okay. She is alive, eating drinking. So I went to the feed store this morning and got some Wazine. Just put one oz in one gallon of water. She drank it right away. I will let them stay penned for 24 hours. They will all be treated.

So, from what I am reading Wazine does not kill Gapes? Is this correct? So why is it recommended? How does it help the bird?

The guy at the feed store said to treat her for 7 days. Is that right? Do I give her new dosage of Wazine every day, 1oz per gallon of water daily? Do I just do this once then go straight to Iveomect? What is the course of treatment by days. I need this spelled out to me.

She is hawking so bad. I don't how big those little buggers are in her throat but she is a fighter I can tell. I think she is losing weight though cause her breastbone looks sunken Anyway, I'll keep you all posted and please please give me a treatment course. A what you would do scenario.

Thanks

I agree with the ivermectin pour on (usually in the cattle and horse section of the feed stores) I use this every 4 months on my chickens and ducks as a preventative. Kills all worms and mites/lice that bite and suck best of all no fussing with waterers and wondering if they had gotten enough. She is pretty small and young yet so I'd try 2 drops on the back of her neck rather then the reccomended 4 drops. Get 25 guage needles to use as the dropper maybe cutting the sharp tip off the end of the needle just in case she flinches during treatment but most importantly you need GLOVES! this stuff absorbs immediately so u definately don't want to get any on your skin. Rubber gloves work well. Good luck with your girl

Wazine as far as I understand it doesn't get rid of gapeworms. You need ivermectin pour on or the injectible kind. Very expensive stuff but broad spectrum wormer and delouser. If memory serves me right I think you only do the wazine 1 day so the person who told you 7 days was dead wrong. It says right on the bottle of wazine to treat 1 day! and basically its good for round worms. Never trust the words of the folks at the feed stores....

Is Ivermectin something that you can get at the farm supply store or do you need to get it from a vet? Do I understand right that it is good for all worms/parasites? Should I do it on a regular basis?

Thank you Chickenaddict for explaining wazine usage. Wazine only gets rid of roundworms. Remove their water after your chickens go to bed. Put the wazine out there early the next morning for them to drink. Remove it 24 hours later and replace it with regular freshwater. The guy at the feed store is a knucklehead. You are wasting time using the wazine,it wont kill gapeworm. Time isnt on your side, you need to get the ivermectin pour on or the safeguard liquid 10% suspension before your chickens die!

I got the ivomec. 1% injectable and will be giving it orally. I went back and told the guy Wazine was a waste and i wanted Ivomec. He was like, Okay . So I will give it an let you know.

It wouldn't hurt to get a couple cloves of garlic and give chopped up bits in food, too, to help speed up recovery. Garlic is supposed to be good at promoting good health, in addition to killing gapeworms.
So glad your hen lived through the night, and you got the Ivomec and are able to treat her now!
Best wishes!

I gave her the meds. Should I treat all the girls? I am so afraid that their wiping their beaks on the ground means they have it too.

Also, I gave the Ivo in a diabetic syringe, the very little one, is that the right dosage. I only gave her up to the 2 mark. Should I give her more? She is still hawking and gasping. How long does it take for the worms to die?
