Roses
When will it end?
Tonight has been the worst day ever! It rained all day, and now it is storming. There is a lot of wind and we are all huddled together to keep warm; except for Vanilla, who is by herself. No one wants to get too close to her, she has mites and lice. The girl comes out to us sometimes and checks to see if were all okay.
Oh, no! Amigo, who has been watching outside closely has noticed something. Through some cracks in the wall, we see that a tree near the goats has caught fire. We must save them! he announces.
We all go down into the coops run and dig under the wire. It is very smoky and some of us have to get away from it. The girl is still asleep. We run up to her window and we make the loudest noises we can. She wakes up quickly.
What are you chooks doing out in the rain? she asks. Oh my gosh. She has seen the tree. She leaps out of bed and wakes the big people. They come out to look at the tree. We sit under the shelter of the veranda and watch. The animals in the goats are trying to get away. The girl looks scared.
A big, loud red truck comes to help. It has flashing lights and a loud siren so the people know they are here. The people from the red truck come out with a hose and stop the fire. The people all help the animals out of the barn. Amigo leads us to them to check everyones okay. It looks like everyone is. Until we see Zenneth.
Her back has been burnt and she limps a bit.
Zenneth! Carrot cries. What happened?
Its nothing. Ill be fine, Zenneth says.
It certainly doesnt look like nothing! Symphony says.
Zenneth saved us, Aurora says. The other goats nod.
A burning branch was falling towards us and Zenneth stood in the way. She saved us! Glory explains.
Shes so brave! Zinnia exclaims.
The people have turned their attention to Zenneth.
Will she be okay? the girl asks, crying.
I dont know, one of the big people replies.
The truck leaves. The people get their horse float and take Zenneth away.
I hope shell be okay, Pinkie says.
So do I, Angel sighs. So, we go back to the coop.
In the morning we go to check on Zenneth. She is bandaged up and sleeping.
Lets leave her, Maple says.
Alright, I say.
I really hope Zenneth will be okay.
