I have a few questions that I hope my fellow members could answer for me..
1. I have a ringneck hen who is currently laying, however, she sporadically lays them all over the pen and not in a nest. The hen and rooster are separated. Idk if you have had pheasants do that, but i don't think it's normal. lol. And I know the eggs are fertile.
2. If she doesn't start making a nest (which i don't think she will) i want to gather the eggs and incubate them. - this is where most of my ??? come from..
I attempted to hatch them last year with no success so i would like to know an experienced hatchers thought.. (or anyones for that matter)
3. I made a Styrofoam incubator with a light and a glass window in the front. I wanted to modify it and add a fan and possibly my own turner so i don't have to keep opening the lid and letting the heat come out.. what do you think on Styrofoam incubators?
4. how do you keep the temp and humidity consistent without it fluctuating dramatically? - i don't have that high of a light wattage.. 25W.
5. My incubator is currently steady at 47% humidity and 91 degrees F. Is this temp and humidity sufficient enough to throw my eggs in??

Oh, lastly.. if I can't get my pheasant to nest, or my incubator to do its job, what do you think about a broody hen hatching them for me????

1. My one female lays in the coop.. the other EVERYWHERE lol!
2.I am currently incubating 4 pheasant eggs. All have excellent movement. I have kept it at 99.5*/60% humidity and turn them by hand 3 or 5 times a day.. they are in with my duck/goose eggs so they will get a little mist sometimes on them, does not seem to bother them any. I am using a Genesis 1588 bator with digital hydrometer and thermostat and a fan I never had it spike or go low on me.
3. I bought mine.. the other one I had was a manual guess and check.. it spiked on me and I lost my hatch.. Never again! I love this new bator I have, it is styrofoam but keeps the temp excellently!
4. Part of 2 answers this and I would just buy a bator I find it MUCH easier and it was a lot at first by paying off itself quite well! When I open the lid on mine it only goes down to 94* and about 35% humidity.. My waterfowl eggs need a cool down period and it seems to not affect my pheasant eggs because they are developing quite nicely.
5. The temp needs to hold steady at 99.5 and when it comes to lockdown the humidity has to go up pretty high... I can get mine to go to about 75% without introducing sponges to help keep it there.

Also I would check fertility.. all you have to do is get one egg.. get a plate... and crack it open! Try to keep the yolk in tact so you can look for the white ring with a white center on it... In the picture I attached it is kind of hard to see but its on the lower left side the point on the shell on the side kinda points right at it.

I guess the only thing I'm confused about is what exactly I'm looking for with the egg. Is it a white cloudy patch that's to the side of the yolk? If I see that does that mean its fertile?

Scroll down they have really good images of fertile egg yolks. And yes, if it looks like any of the pics on that page I pasted then its fertile and your other eggs are more then likely to be fertile too! I have NEVER seen my male ringneck mount.. So I really had to check the eggs... And to my surprise they where fertile!
