Here's a few photos of the family. Every year I collect and hatch the first eggs for birds to sell, and I leave the last eggs for the hen to hatch to keep for future breeder stock. The parent reared birds have consistently been larger, stronger, and better looking than the artificially incubated birds and a pen with parents and chicks is a joy to watch.

Excellent photos. Now that's what a pheasant family is supposed to look like. In my experience, I have not yet experienced that parent reared birds are larger and stronger, but I have noticed that they are definitely better looking - proportion-wise that is. My hand-raised bird looked obese compare to it's younger and parent reared siblings.

RideRed93- I have alot of my females that hatch their own chicks and I have left the fathers in the pen with them and mine will push the chicks to the feed and the water. If you feel comfortable with leaving him in there I would. The big thing you have to worry about is if there are any small places where your chicks can wonder off too and get stuck like something you wouldn't think would be a problem but if you can imagine any hole I would fix it. I actually put plexiglass that is 6 in around the nest and food and water for the first week just to keep the baby close even tho the mother will normally keep them pretty close or under them. I have pix of the momma with her chicks if you would like to see them it is pretty neat. I also think the chicks are alot healthier also and alot friendlier than the others that are hatched in the incubator. While my females are laying on their nest they teach the youngsters how to come up to me and soon they are copying the parents with trying to get treats from my hands although it has to be much smaller so they don't choke.
Hope your female hatches her eggs because it is something to see.

This is only some of them if I could figure out how to get videos off of my video camera I have the chicks hatching and the mother helping them out. I also placed a yellow, and Amherst eggs under her and she hatched them as well.

Very nice! My RG that is laying is not using a provided nest. I see you use pine branches...is it okay for the chicks and all? It seems like a good idea.

I have not had any problems many people put pine trees in there setups so it really is no difference. I normally go right after christmas and buy all the wreaths that the stores sell and since I have been doing this for the last 5 yrs most of them hold them for me now since I live in a very small town.
