I have a broody hen 7 eggs left and one was in the process of hatching and she was stepping on it chicks cheeping but there is blood on the egg I have another that has just piped. She has killed 4 chics by standing on them 3 hatched and doing well but I had to move eggs out of the way each time. I do not have an incubator but do have a plastic container and heating pad there are viable chicks in the eggs that havent hatched yet and I don't want any more losses because she stepped on them.

The bleeding is at the bottom end where it's butt is and it's just chirping never got to unzip I can see the beak through the piped hole at the top.

If they are pipping and a lot have hatched would it be okay to move them to the heating pad with a light above it? Can you weigh in chickengeorgeto?

I'm having a hard time following your thread. From your initial post, it sounds like you may be interfering with her. When a broody is hatching eggs, you should stay as far away from her as possible. Don't look, don't touch. Don't even be in the vicinity of the broody. Leave her completely alone. If I'm misinterpreting what is going on, my apology. IF she is such a clutz that she is killing her babies as they hatch, either her nest set up is at fault, or she needs to be prevented from ever hatching chicks again.

This is what I came up with for an incubator temp staying at 100

Once the chick comes out of the shell, you might have to keep it separate from the other chicks. I had one that was bleeding and the other chicks pecked it to death. But they were about a few days old.

I'm really out of my element. I have not had a hen hatch her own chicks. I'm sorry, I can't help more.
