Hi everyone, I had 7 eggs under a broody and one of them broke and the yolk is all over the eggs and i was wondering if i need to clean the eggs off with somthing or leave them be. Thanks

I had the same thing happen about two weeks ago and I wiped off the excess but didn't clean them as such - due to hatch on thursday....so we will see

My clumsy hen has broken 3 over the last three weeks. I just left them alone. They are due to hatch tomorrow so i will let you know

best of luck

I used to wash off the egg goo when that happened, and the eggs hatched just fine. then I found that it gets rubbed off on the straw if you don't wash it off, and the eggs still hatch fine. So now I just remove wet, gooey straw from the nest and replace it with clean straw, and put the eggs back. I wipe off anything still wet, first.

Unless it smells bad, then I take out the eggs and wash them, and put them back under the hen, with fresh bedding. It doesn't seem to affect the hatch rate at all, whichever way I do it.
