PLEASE RESPOND IMPORTANT TO ME I FEEL SO SAD AND GUILTY***************

It's not your fault. These things happen. I am a first time chicken person and I was really stupid! I left the chicks alone outside and there was a rooster nearby and he could get in, but I thought,"He's fine he's a pacifist chicken and would never do anything," Well I was wrong, he got in and beat up our only hen out of our larger chickens. It's legs were broken(or so my mom said), so we moved it inside. We ended up having to put it out of it's misery. Lesson learned. With chickens and other birds you can grieve and feel sorry. I've learned that you just have to let go. I'm sorry for your loss.

Aw, wow. That's so sad. You know, hatching can be really hard, and I think it's just amazing that you tried so hard and that you loved chick and duck so much. But these things do happen sometimes in the world of hatching.

Believe me, this knowledge will be valuable to you when you successfully hatch your next chicks and ducks. And they will very likely hatch fine and fluffy. Everyone who hatches either has had losses or will have. It comes with the territory. So, as Katy said, don't beat yourself up. This experience will help you be a better hatcher in the future.

Im sorry you are sad. But you also have to remember, you dont know that it die just from exhaustion, it may have been to weak and not made it anyway. A strong healthy chick that will thrive will get out at that point on its own.

Opening and helping may have had an affect on the others waiting to hatch by dropping their humidity at a crucial time. You are not supposed to open the bator but once a day at this point to remove healthy chicks.

But I don't think it's your fault. You aren't alone in sending off some poor babies. I've had to bury 3 dried out stillborn chicks today

Thank You everyone, I've brainstormed some ideas that might help next time, I've made some modifications to my incubator and a set of rules to follow like hardly open the bator. Should start next week with a new batch.

I guess i was so upset because it was my first batch ever and there were only two left!

I know how you feel the same thing happen to me

My thoughts are with you, especially on your first time. I had a similar experience with my first order of day old chicks....
Take care with yourself, it will get better.

I have learned a lot about helping them - experience is a hard teacher. But even with experience sometimes it goes wrong and you wish you could go back and reverse your decision. I am glad you are jumping into your next hatch. It will go better. I learned hatching with a friend and we cried with each loss - and there were lots of them. For a while we thought we might wipe out the chicken population - we were just killers! But we learned and those lessons stay with you a lfietime.

Happy hatching!

I'm so sorry.

We lost 4 chicks during our first ever hatch this past week and it wasn't easy.

You did the best you could. We are getting ready for our next batch in a day or two. I'm sure your next hatch will be very successful!!
