I just recently lost a chicken, not sure what caused it. I have been given tips just days before to give her yogurt, poly vi sol, read to add garlic to water. I am just curious what you are doing and how often you use these additives to supplement their regular pellet diet. Really appreciate your tips since I am fairly new at this.

I don't use any additives/supplements/vitamins, etc. My chickens get chicken feed (layer crumbles) and fresh water. They free range from about 9 AM when I let them out of their run until they put themselves to bed in the evening when I go back and close up the run.

I ferment my bird's feed. They are on layer unless I have chicks. When there are chicks, the entire flock is on unmedicated chick starter. Poultry Nutri-Drench for all chicks during the first 2 weeks. Sugar water as needed for new chicks, along with home made electrolyte for shipping stress, or summer heat stress. Multi vit to condition flock during breeding season. Otherwise, I've never had to treat for anything. My birds self medicate with lots of access to garlic, oregano, rough grass, rhubarb leaves.

We fed our layer, normal layer feed with 20% protein. Occasional treats such as tomatoes, leftovers, and greens were given, as well as yogurt in small amounts and occasionally. They free ranged for bugs and green stuff. If I have extra SCOBY's (yeast and bacteria culture) I would chop them up as treats (once or twice a year probably) because they LOVED them. Really mostly they just ate layer feed and free range. I also had oyster shell and grit available free choice at all times.

My 5 nineteen month old girls get no people food, no kitchen or table scraps. No ACV (apple cider vinegar) or vitamin supplements, although I do have a unopened bottle of Nutri-Drench vitamins for Poultry. They get unlimited access to fresh layers pellets and a mixed bird seed as a treat twice a day. I also let them free range 2 to 3 1/2 hours before sunset daily, weather permitting. They also have unlimited access to fresh water, heated in the winter.
I have never wormed or dusted for lice or mites. I got them as day old chicks. I bought six, one died at four days old.
I got 28 good eggs last week from my 5 Golden Comets. GC
Edited to add, I also offer Oyster shell and Granite Grit in separate containers.

My birds get Flock Raiser, one of the 20% protein all-flock feeds, oyster shell on the side, and they free range on my farm in good weather. In winter, the same feed, and snow limits what else they may find. Horse poo (yummy) and hay from the horses. Very limited scratch, as a treat, and some veggies from the kitchen.
I might add electrolytes for a few days for shipped chicks, if they look under the weather.
Otherwise, no other suppliments. Mary

Thank you so much for the responses. I guess I am happy as it doesn't seem like I have been depriving my chickens.
