Hey, I'm with'ya on the temptation........BUT..........a feller can take a day's vacation to go buy his quail pen stuff...........and actually examine each piece for
"straightness" .............. load it on a buggy (after he's content).........and go get the damage done..........with satisfaction he's got some good / straight lumber to build a "quail castle" that he can be proud of........

............... Then.........ya gotta explain to the wife that it's an investment that will have a "return"...........

Hello Everyone,

Here are a few images of my custom built brooder. Please laugh, as it has a funny appearance. Its a small one, and it works great.

I found this in the Craigslist Free section...Score!

I removed the hinge by drilling out the rivits, then re-attached it to the right side with some small nuts, bolts, washers from my re-cycle hardware box.

The blue tray at the bottom is removeable for easy cleaning. It's a Whipmix POS [Point of Sale] sign made of plastic [for Promotions] and I heated it with my trusty hairdrier and bent the sides up. Its a process, doen't take long, however its hard on the hands, you may want cloth gloves as if you've never worked with plastic you may be surprised at how easily and quickly it can cut flesh to the bone.
It works nicely, keeps all the dropping in the pan. Having no hinge at bottom allows the plexiglass to flex a little to pull out the tray. Their are openings for ventalation at the top and buttom of the glass and as this top slants up toward the front it allows for an convection heat circulation.

What do ya'll think?

Everythings Great! I had just a tad over 60% hatch, which I consider great as it was shipped and during the winter cold. I attibute that to the excellant packaging!

I was hoping to give a detail report on how many, however my youngest daughter forgot I had them seperated and when she manually rotated the eggs she mixed them up from the suppliers....doh

Thanks for the terrific eggs, shipping, and packaging. All the chics are beautiful!

Very interesting!

What's the clear square things in the bottom? Looks like it will triple as a Yahtzee board.
