I say this as a proud aunt and even prouder mother.

Some kids are brats. Some parents are incompetent. Some kids need discipline. Some parents need discipline. And some kids and some parents are horrible little monsters that should have to go live in a cave somewhere until they learn to be human beings instead of uncivilized beasts.

I say this as a proud aunt and even prouder mother.

It is possible to teach your children to be respectful of other people.
It is possible to teach your children not to scream all the time.
It is possible to teach your children not to run into people in public.
It is possible to teach your children not to pull things off shelves.

All you have to do is remember that the word 'parent' is also a verb.

And it is perfectly okay to be upset at the multitude of people who don't understand that. And being upset at the multitude of people who don't understand that doesn't mean we don't have children. It just means we know how to be parents.

Kids will be kids is not an excuse for kids to be howling banshees running roughshod over the neighbors.

AMEN!!

The way I see it, if parents want to let their children act like animals,..take them to the zoo and leave them. A child can be a child without being a snotty, noisy, brat. Try teaching them respect for others,..simple as that. ESPECIALLY if you are living in an apartment complex.

I have a drawer full of unmatched socks, and I always blamed it on the dryer. I will have to ask Ruth if she has been mailing my socks to apartments buildings. She is helpful like that.

I've been a babysitter and a tutor and know many teachers. I have a 6 year old niece.

Expecting a kid to know what an indoor voice is doesn't mean I expect kids to be robots. That's a ridiculous strawman.

If you don't think a 6 year old can be a brat, obviously you've never met very many 6 year olds.

For crying out loud, my son is TWO (2) and knows what an indoor voice is.

I have to say this...Im sorry but hubby brought this up and it HAS to be told!

Spend a day, a WHOLE day, in a room full of deaf and hard of hearing children
big_smile.png

then go home, and ask yourself which would you rather have...
A noisy 6 year old that yells through your walls and ceiling maybe not 24/7
or
being in a room, ALL DAY, with a group of deaf and hard of hearing kids.

Im sure you would want the kid through the walls and ceiling.

Surprise, kids that have hearing problems are 10x more louder then kids who do not. If we were living in an apartment still, my girls can be heard maybe throughout a WHOLE building! They are LOUD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! And, a hard of hearing child doesn't know rather they are being quiet or not so it's even harder to get them to ssssshhhh a little.

When we lived in an apartment, my son was expected to be calm and quiet inside. If he couldn't do that, I took him to a park, to the play area, to the pool, whatever, so my neighbors were not disturbed. No they cannot necessarily control their behavior, but as parents, we can respect the people we live around and move them to a more noise friendly area.

That is not say that we didn't have numerous tickling episodes. But laughter begets laughter.

I'd rather have my personal possessions stolen than be murdered, too. The fact that one is worse than the other does not excuse the behavior.

That is one reason to talk to a neighbor first before calling the cops, though. There's always a chance that the situation is not as cut and dry as parents simply allowing an obnoxious brat free reign, and it's best to be made aware of it.

ETA: I was digging through the sock drawer and came across some old neon toe socks, which I would think would look great for your purpose. Smile!
