Please tell me about your experience(s) with cocci

Yes holes. Always been inside house. Was gonna put em in tractor today but now i dont know what to do

id put them in the tractor and see how they do keep an eye on them but i would say the fresh air and the green grass and the ability to scratch will make them feel better

Ok first off... please DO NOT feed them dairy products if it's hot enough for them to pant.

The ACV is helping their gut flora so don't worry about feeding stuff like yogurt. (Personally I think it's fed way too much. Dairy isn't good for birds...supposedly they don't have the enzymes to break it down.)

Second, PUT THEIR WATERERS ON A PHONE BOOK or something! (Sorry I'm not yelling, its just something that really needs to be taken care of and bless your heart for washing it so many times a day. For your own sanity, raise the waterer). They should be back level so they don't poop in the waterers. As our chicks grow in our brooders we're always kluging things together to raise their waterers and feeders a little higher each time so they don't poop in the water and kick out all of the food.

Cocci doesn't always present with bloody stools. Sometimes them just being a little off or being more quiet than normal can be the start of a cocci infection.

Fix the issue of poopie water and keeping them cool, then if they don't improve treat them with a cocci med and see what happens. Chicks losing weight is scary!

Good luck!!

That could not be said any better...

I worry when people over medicate chicks without seeing if maybe changing their environment may be the one thing they need first.

Thanks. You're always trying to brain storm all the possibilities. Unfortunately, with Cocci, sometimes you don't have time. But given this warm environment, if they don't have Cocci yet...with the HEAT and the poopie water...it's just trouble waiting to happen.

ReikiStar has it right. I would also keep adding that ACV in the water. It really seems to level out my girls.

I'd put them in the tractor, too. If it gets below 70 at night, maybe bring them back in at night. Is there a secure coop in the tractor? I put mine out at 4 weeks (5 chicks were driving me buggy in the garage), and they have adapted quite nicely. Last night all 5 of them were stuffed into one nest box and I had to physically move two of them to a different spot. I'm not fighting them over the nest boxes because they won't be living in the tractor/hoop after they reach full size. I'll integrate them into the other group (11 months old) when they are around 16 weeks.

I'd put them outside ASAP. It's amazing what it does for them. And ITA with hanging their waterers.

Hopefully it's not cocci, when we've had it we lost chicks FAST, very soon after seeing symptoms and never had weight loss with it.

Hope your birds start improving quickly!

Its long overdue but I wanted to say thanks to everyone who replied to this thread. I raised the waterers and it worked well. Duuuuuh. Lmao. Feel kinda stupid for not thinking of that myself. Theyre in the coop now and doing very well-- still bonier thN i thought was normal but a friend of mine irl who keeps chickens assures me its normal. *shrug*

So thank you all again!

glad to hear they are doing good
