But the silkies make the SS look like mensa members.

I love my "yard candy" Sussex. They are friendly, but tend to free-range farther from the coop than the other breeds. They lay almost every day.​

I have 3 SS pullets and one roo, now almost 4 mos old. They are great - the pullets are very lovely and calm, and very friendly from a very early age. They will come over to me and stand on my feet if I am standing, "talk" to me, and jump up in my lap or on my chair arm if I am seated. No laying yet.

The roo is a little stand-offish, but very well-mannered and beautiful. He's not crowing yet, but his brother started crowing at 5 weeks. I got 7 different breeds of chicks to try a variety to see what I really wanted to keep - the SS are no doubt my favorites because of their friendliness and beauty.

I have one, Nelda, about two years old. She is a short, round girl with an Olive Oyl voice, never cackles when she lays (the egg is very small, nothing like the egg she came out of). She will jump into people's vehicles looking for food when they come here and leave a window or tailgate open. She's just Nelda, our eating machine.
