and got a request to hatch peacock eggs. Never done it; no clue. I have a Sportsman and need to know all I can to properly respond. Also, how much would you charge if they were supplying the eggs? Thanks!

I have NO info about how to hatch them however when someone supplies the eggs I only charge them per chick (i ignore incubation fees only because my incs going to be running wether or not i have their eggs in it or not because..well im a hatch aholic lol)!

My bator will be running too - always is! But I need to research their temp and humidity because I'll have other eggs in there. How much per chick do you think?

if i had peacocks i'd charge like $10 or less! i would have 1 male and 3 hens.

the only way to make a rare bird more available is by making it available.

also, incubation takes 28-30 days at 99F. stop turning on the 25th day and the humidity and such are pretty much the same as chickens. 30-40% during incubation and 60-70% during the hatch. hope that helps... for incubation for someone else i might charge $20 for the whole thing or 1$ for every day it takes for them to hatch. those things suck up electricity like mad crazy!

edited for spelling errors

That does help - thanks! They aren't my eggs though, I'd just be incubating/hatching them. Problem is, I've never even seen one. I bought the extra large plastic trays and they fit the duck eggs. Are peacock eggs bigger than duck eggs?

I'd do a bit of research to see exactly how sturdy they are. If they're easy hatchers and the chicks are sturdy, I'd only charge a few bucks. If they're a PITA and you only get an average of 50% or so, simply because they're hard to hatch or weak birds, then I'd charge a little bit more. I just say research because you'd find a better average on their difficulty level.

i really dont agree with the rare selling statement but that's just me. I mean if you're looking to make money sure. But when you're seriously working on a breed that statment doesnt hold much water. Like with my BC marans I wont be selling them for a while once they are laying, swapping and having my friends test their eggs sure but no selling....but sure if i wanted to make some mad profits off of them, i'd sell them cheaper than everyone else and not be concerned with breeding them. Also with my coturnix, my prices for eggs is pretty expensive compaired to other breeders, however i breed selectively for color and type where as most breeders who sell for cheap for 100+ eggs normally only have 1-2 colors and dont know what you could get lol. But then again this has nothing to do with lilraphies selling pre- bought eggs lol.
