I had a broody hen about 4-5 months ago I let hatch 4 eggs. All 4 look like cockerels

This one the last one I was holding out on. I feel like I came home from work one day and he/she started to look very masculine.

What am I doing wrong? What dictates whether a chick will be male or female? I used to assist with breeding snakes and incubation temperatures helped dictate the sex. Is it the same with chickens?

It’s a cockerel . Temp doesn’t dictate F or M just how the cards fall. Sorry.

That's a cockerel. There are lots of theories, but nothing other than the hen seems to determine the gender of chicks.

You are not doing anything wrong. The sex of the chick is determined by the hen before the egg is laid.

That's what I thought. It just seems odd out of 4 they're all male. And I let her hatch different eggs, so 2 were her's and the other barred rock and a RIR.
