please tell me what is wrong with my goat....

Last week Lilah was doing the death moan and acting like she had to throw up. It was horrible and frightening. We got her moving and she started belching like you wouldn't believe. She was in bad trouble and thankfully we got her straightened out quickly. She is a 155lb hog and ate not only her feed but I am sure someone else's feed.

Here is a link for UC as kate stated

Call a vet.

vet said they have to cut the tip ofthe penis off and if that doesn't work they have to do surgery to reroute him to pee like a girl...sound right? Dh gonna kill me, 2 goats at vet at same time

First treatment us usually copious amounts of AC and a pizzle trim. Sometimes you can get enough AC in there to dilute the crystals...unfortunately often by the time they're at this point it's too late.

Good luck...

Back from the vet.....thanks Helmstead and everyone else.....the vet was able to cut the appendage off and he started peeing. He also gave him a shot of something but I was too worried to even ask what it was. He is doing fine now. The vet said I might be feeding the goats too much goat feed. That can cause stones, need to let them graze more. Now to get the baby goat taken care of. We will take him in tomorrow.....too much going on this morning.

I will not comment.

If you'd like to discuss your feeding program, please PM me and I'll help however I can. You are by NO means out of the woods yet. Sounds like changes need to be made across the board.

This is why I only feed my wether grass hay and that's it. UC scares the heck out of me. I don't even mess with trying to figure out the right ration of calcium to phosphorus for him, I just don't give him grain/feed. I feel bad locking Chester in the stanchion while the does eat their feed but it's for his own good. I hope your guy gets better

Turbo,
Did they give him any antibiotics or the ammonium chloride that he needs for the crystals?
Any pain meds? Any anything?

Perhaps you should try another vet more knowlegable in goat care.

I feel for your guy, I really do.
