Please vote: Pygmys or Nigerian Dwarfs?

I like the idea of getting one of each, if you can get them pretty close to the same time so one isn't by itself for very long.

If you really think you might milk in the future then the mini-nubian might be the way to go. Or, the Nigerian.

I vote nigerian, and bottleraised if possible. I just dont like the beer keg on legs look of pygmies, but they are easier to find.

If, in the back of your mind, you are thinking about milking then go with the Nigerian. Just try to get them from someone that breeds them for milking. So you will have decent size teats and enough milk to make it worth your while.
Baby Nigerians are every bit as cute as the pygmies. Actually all baby goats are cute, and comical.
With the price of milk going up you can't go wrong in getting a Nubian or other milk goat. Milking isn't all that complicated and what you save in money, from not having to buy store milk, should offset the difference in the amount of feed a dairy goat eats vs a small goat.
Goat milk comes in handy around a farm, there always seems to be some baby animal that can use it. I raised a litter of bunnies on goat milk. And they all lived and are doing well.

I have two 8 week doelings and I absolutely LOVE them.

I am not sure what kind they are, but have been told they look like nigerians. If that is the case, I vote nigerian. They are so sweet!!! Here's two pics of our babies. I had to add the second one, because I think it is so precious!

I was contemplating the same thing and found that there are several breeders of Nigerians near me but none of pygmys that I have found so far. That may decide it for me.

Before you decide on one of these 2 breeds, read up on Fainting Goats(myotonics). We have 4 now and we love them. They have great personalities and the males do not smell like a lot of goats do. They become very friendly the more you are around them and they are easy to catch! (just clap your hands or yell)LOL

I also vote Nigerians, especially if you are interested in milking. Even the minis will give you milk. I had pygmies growing up and they are wonderful too. I now have Nigerian Dwarfs because there coloring and markings are so diverse. With pygmies there are not as many colors you can get in breeding. Anyway good luck, you will be happy with any baby minis you get.

Just by what you've said, I also think that Nigerian Dwarf goats would suit you well.
