Hi there,
Im hoping someone could help me,I bought a silver laced wyandotte trio a few weeks back they are 12 months old and WAS in lay.
At there previous home they were kept in a indoor shed under artificial light they were moulting and laying at the same time (I believe this is relevant)
Once I took the trio home I realised they had bold backsides not just the vent but the whole off the fluff that covers the butt is gone on both hens, they laid about 4 eggs on the first week they got here the first few were porous but the last one was better.
I cleaned there behinds and sprayed this purple anti bacteria thing on there that I got from my petstore, ive wormed them and sprayed them and there coops for mites,I gave them extra protein (black sunflower seeds) and calcium from boiled eggs and calcium grit, they now have access to outdoors and much more freedom and closer to nature than at there previous home.
HOWEVER they have totally stopped laying no matter how much effort I put into them, the rooster isnt even trying to tread them anymore Its like ive gave them a holiday home!!!
Im switching there food to breeders pellets tommorrow, but if anyone can tell me what has happend here and what I can do to get them laying/threading again please advise me I payed £70 for them and they are literally just sunbathing in my yard =\
Many thanks

Their taking a break in laying may just be coincidental. It's not unusual for laying hens to lay a certain amount of eggs, then take a breather. After a rest period of a few weeks to up to a few months, they will likely begin laying again.

They may also be taking a break in their laying while they adjust to their new home. I'd say you're doing everything possible to make them feel content, so try to be patient until they decide to grace you with eggs again.

Thank you so much for the responce,I really am trying to be patient,I just thought all chickens (of age) will lay in spring,or if its possible that becaise they were under artificial light they dont get the signal to lay from natural light, does that happen?

When chickens are moved to a new home they will stop laying until they are comfortable. It is perfectly normal and nothing to worry about. They will resume laying with in a month or so. Not to worry. Hope this helps and best wishes to you and your new flock!!

Thank you for your kind words and assurance,I will wait patiently and work on getting them to top health for now xx
