I have a male Button quail named noodle. He’s about seven years old and has lived by himself for the past four years since his lady passed away. Today I noticed some crusty brown stuff in the corners of his mouth, and that one of his eyes looked a little runny. It only took a few hours before things quickly got worse. I’m assuming the brown stuff in the corners of his mouth is vomit? I can’t get it off because it’s dried hard onto his face feathers.
He also has runny eyes, and can’t breathe well. Every breath is a tiny clicking gasp, and his mouth is full of foaming, bubbling saliva, he also no longer opens his eyes.
I tried to contact my local bird vets, but no luck. Next, I went to tractor supply in hope of finding antibiotics but my local store doesn’t carry any. So instead I bought VetRx, nutri-drench, and some eye gel. I did what I could with those, but just a tiny drop of nutri-drench made things worse because there’s already so much liquid in his mouth I don’t think he can drink any drown.
Currently, I have an alarm set to go off every hour throughout the night so that I can check on him and change his warm water bottle.
I’m not sure how to get him in some nutrients. It’s been more than 12 hours now since he’s eaten or drinking anything.
Is there anything I can do for him at all?? does anyone know what this is or might be and does anyone know how this could’ve happened? (he hasn’t been around other birds in over four years and he’s an inside boy.)
I took a little video of him which is below
