Like another hen-master, I've just started seeing some plucked necklines. I was letting the 6 hens freerange all day but they started going too far into the neighbors' yards. We are now leaving them in the pen for the day - setting them free from about 4:00 to bedtime. I know, no size of pen could substitute for the fun of free range and I feel like I have already put so much money into this project. Englarging the pen or putting up a fence is just more expense. Does anyone have any ideas about how to keep my gals closer to home?

I sometimes just let the free range an hour or so, like when I'm out puttering around. Bring them back throwing out black oil sunflower seeds. I toss them inside the door and they all come running.
I'd like to hear other ideas though.
