I have a silkie that has a completely plugged nostril.Looks like maybe food but not sure.Yesterday I brought her in and put warm soaked cotton balls on it and tried to soften it up but did not work.I am afraid to pull on it to hard nit knowing how deep it goes or if it's hooked to something.Any help would b greatly appreciated
 
This is a common problem, and the plug is usually feed mixed with secretions and dirt. It can build up into something like concrete. Using QTips soaked in hydrogen peroxide placed on the nostril opening for a few minutes can help soften it. Saline or salt water is good too. Then use wooden toothpicks to gently try to get the material out. Some use a feather quill. Be careful not to damage the opening, and this may take several treatments.
