Hi all, I'm new here so thanks for taking the time to read this. I have a red golden pheasant about 3 years old now, had him for about 18 months. Last Aug he started to cast / loose feathers and condition. I had thought it was just season related. They did come back at start of year but have started to moult again. He has the long tail feathers but looses neck and body feathers daily. While he isn't bald anywhere, his remaining feathers are basically greasy looking.
We feed him Game pellets with sunflower seeds and peanuts as well as cat nuts occasionally. He is in an indoor aviary, always has been since we got him.
Any advise would be appreciated and thanks in advance

Hi PheasanBreeder - thanks a million for the reply. I should have said he's housed on his own I'm afraid. We got him as a rescue! (We had gone to get Chickens and he was in a run, not happy at all. The owner said if we didn't take him, he'd be in a stew! - he apparently didn't get on with other birds)

It's molten season now but give it a couple months and if he do feather out their May be a problem. It's known in some birds to stress and loose a lot of their feathers. Just make sure he has a good nutrition.

That's great - thanks for that, really appreciate it. I had thought molten season didn't start until Aug in my ignorance, but that puts my mind at rest. fingers crossed all will turn out well. Cheers again
