Plymouth Rock thread!

My Penny is getting bigger. She is 2 1/2 months. She lost her buddy to a dog and did not fit in with our hens, but we recently added 3 ee chicks (6 weeks old) with her and she loves it. She is nice to them and looks like one of them (other than the fact she is twice their size!)

Here she is with her new buddies! She is the sweetest chick!

Hello all

I finally got some updated pics of my boy though he didn't want to co-operate. I'd like to know what's going on with his wings. They look odd and not nearly as nice as all the ones on here. Is it just sun damage? We've just gone through summer here and he has been in the sun a bit. His saddle feathers look a bit off color too though they don't show in the pics very well. It took him forever to grow in his feathers but I hoped once he was done he'd look like he should.

He's still doing a mini moult so please excuse some missing feathers. He's 18wo in these pics. Opinions on his type etc are most welcome.

is he hatchery stock?

The OP is in Australia.
his shape does not look bad. The color, I think we need to let him fill out more. So far the color looks all over the place

So does that mean since he is from australia they dont have hatcherys? and do Australian PBR differ from ours in the US that much?

No, I think it is a barred rock, because of the leg color. I may be mistaken
if you like that color and body type, Dominiques sound like a great breed for you.
Got a new pic of my barred rock male

LOL I can assure you I dont own a maran that is kind of an older pic I will go snap a few here in a bit. I know my stock and where all my birds come from. I will admit out of 12 eggs I only ended up keeping 1 rooster and 3 hens there just wasnt any show quality in the show stock I ordered it happens. So i will take what I got and work with it. I breed Barred and white rocks.

Thank you for your replies.

He's my favorite cockerel so I hope the color does sort it's self out. If he's good enough I'd like to get him some girls. If not he can stay with the layers.

He is from a breeder, we don't have hatcheries like you do in the USA. I just don't know the quality of the breeders stock. He was a surprise gift with several other chicks but sadly the only Rock. He is a huge bird and very heavy. I'll have to weigh him, I'm interested to see just how heavy he is. He still has some breast to fill out at the moment.

I will wait and see how he comes along. I was lucky to get these pics as last night my Welly cockerel went and removed a bunch of his neck feathers.

They were sharing the no'1 spot peacefully till then. Just split all the boys up but I'll have to wait for those feathers to grow back now.
