Heres my new addition. I was butchering some for a friend, but he was so friendly and good looking that i saved him from the fryer! I didnt have a grown roo so he got the job. He's just a baby yet, hasnt begun to crow. My old BA hen really likes to dance with him. We named him Big Papa!

Good looking guy!

Thanks, my wife called me at work today and said he was trying to crow, when I got home I sat in the coop and crowed at him; sure enough, he hoped up on the roost and crowed. Not a great crow, but hes trying!

These are my barred rocks from Jeremy in Nebraska. They are about 4 months old in these pictures. Could someone please critique these and give any feedback you may have.

Howdy all --

Mayflower, our favorite hen and a BR, died last week of unknown causes. The only thing we can think of is the heat this summer has been brutal, much worse than last summer.

Is the BR a heat-tolerant breed? We've talked about picking up a couple more BRs to replace the one we lost, but want to avoid losing another hen we're attached to.

Thanks!

Generally, Rocks are heat tolerant. They handle heat better than my Delawares, and Dels are white, so I'd say yes, they're heat tolerant. Not many chickens can handle some of the heat indexes we've been having across the country, though. It's been a brutal summer.

Our Buff Plymouth Rock Bantams have handled this heat in Southeast Arkansas very well. But then they have been in SE Arkansas for a couple of generations. We got them a few months ago in a trade. Was looking for a thread that just had Plymouth Rock Bantams and could not find one. So I started a thread and poll at https://www.backyardchickens.com/forum/viewtopic.php?pid=7101240#p7101240

Here
is our Buff Plymouth Rock Bantam male. Taken today.
