Plymouth Rock thread!

Well, Cyn, these are for you. Finally pictures of our Rex babies. This was the very first day they got to go outside their pen, so it was very difficult getting a picture with their head up; they were just having so much fun. Also in with them is a young blue rock pullet that Im keeping aside to use. She's about the prettiest one I hatched this year, and I dont want to risk losing her. Lots of pics!

WOW WOW WOW kathy those are gorgeous!

Well, we did it! We got you plenty of Rex, Jr's to choose from, didn't we? And you have some lovely pullets to pair him/them up with, too. It's so wild the way you had an all-pullet hatch and an all-cockerel hatch!

Here is their almost 11 week old sister, Dru:

I have a question, I have a project, and I don't NEED to wait till my little roo grows up to breed him. I have some Good Shepard Barred Rock Roos and I know they are SLOW growing, painfully so

when could I start breeding him with my hens? He is not crowing, I don't even think he has tried. He is 18-20 weeks and HUGE. I just need an idea of when I could put him with my hens. This is just a project idea. I just need a few chicks from him to get my start. When do they FULLY mature too?

I put a young 9 month old in a breeding pen, and have gotten some fertile eggs. Don't look for them to be fully mature till they are at least a year old. They will still put on more body mass after that .......stan

Quote: He is going to be MASSIVE then. He is already the size of my full grown NH roo.... very tall and still has not grown into those legs yet. STILL not feathered well either. I bought 2 roos and one is smaller and has a large comb but no color, is he a he or just not maturing because the other roo is dominate?

BTW Thanks!

I have weighted them at over 10 pounds at 9 months old, and they got a lot bigger! Never had a GS pullet with a large comb. Some of my cockerels have taken forever to get a comb with color

and I have had 2 that colored at 6 weeks, like this guy. He turned out really nice. .........stan
