Bob here is the persons web site that got that stock![]()
I went to her site last night and saw nothing on Silver Penciled Rocks just other off the wall breeds I have no interest in.
Someone said they got two females but no males. I wonder did she have any of Danny Padgett's blood line. It must have been from Superior Farms.
Does any one have Danny Padgett line of Silver Penciled Rocks and if so could post pictures?
So far I only know of two lines in the USA Dick Horst man ,Wynette and maybe Danny's and a few new lines from folks who got birds from them which are still new. Also the fine line in Canada which I hope we can get introduced into the USA someday. bob
Nice picture of this pair and something to strive for to have as a overall flock down the road.
I'm sorry you feel this way. I am a big fan of Rocks of any kind. Hatchery birds have a place on my farm for my egg business. There is nothing wrong with that. However, since this is a breed thread, a lot of us breeders are aiming towards the true standard of the breed. Hatchery Rocks often are outcrossed with other breeds to improve productivity (ex: I see a lot of leghorn blood in hatchery rocks). The difference between the two is night and day.I'm not trying to be rude or anything, but I feel like I need to say something here... I've been doing my best reading through all the posts. Keeping in mind that everybody has a right to their opinions and preferences. Having said that. I am sad to say I will no longer be following this group/thread. While I think it's great to be preserving a heritage bird, I feel as though I have been made to feel like my Plymouth Rock shouldn't even exist because she's a hatchery bird. Now granted nothing was said to me directly. But it's in the tone of other posts, and in comments made to others that have posted pics. Things like oh that's "just a hatchery bird". I choose not to waste my time reading your posts about who's line is better than who's. I may be new to having backyard chickens but I love my girls! I am confident in their ability to someday provide me with eggs (which is their sole purpose). I don't care if her markings are imperfect. I don't care if I can name to line she was sired from. And I don't care that she will never win a ribbon for best in show! All I care about is having healthy happy birds.
