Plymouth Rock thread!

Don't worry, the barring comes out as they grow! Mine were mostly black as well!
Love my BR's! My fave is the smallest cockerel, we named him Microo. He has the most white,
and really pretty barring, and all the other chickens (even the hens!) chase his tiny butt around!

Here is mine at 10 days old, I think (or maybe 2 weeks, not sure). She was named Ebony because she was almost all black, and here she is now:

She's so helpful........

Speckled Hen-Have you found the Blue Rocks to have the same curious, silly personalities as the Barred Rocks?

Well, close enough, I guess. Neela is a bit skittish (I think she believes herself to be a blue Orp, LOL), but Alice and Emily are very sweet. Emily is black and was on the other side of the pen when I took the pics.

kaitlyn-my BPR's were mostly black when they were chicks, the barring didn't show up for awhile. I couldn't tell them apart from my black australorps as chicks!!! But I'm a beginner. My one remaining pullet (rehomed 2 of them with one BRP that turned out to be a roo) is darker than the cockeral was, but SO sweet and pretty! I've heard that until after their first molt you really can't tell exactly how clear the barring will be. I've put some pics up in previous reply's to this thread. Apparently my cockeral was really unexpectedly beautiful for a hatchery bird, the teenage boy and his dad that took him with 2 of the pullets were really excited about using him for a 4 H breeding project someday. Also, I found that the little roo was the sweetest, friendliest of them all.

Yep, out of my older BR's, 9 of them, only 1 is a girl (these were the packing peanuts from ideal poultry when I ordered silkies). The boys are friendlier then the girls I think.

I have 3 bared rocks, all good chickens. Two of them started laying at about 21 weeks, the 3rd turned out to be a rooster, at first I wasn't happy with that but he watches over the girls better then I would. He earns his keep.
My Golden Comets started laying much sooner, 17 weeks and they out produce the barred rocks consistantly in both quantity and size.
