Plymouth Rock thread!

Can any of you Rock experts tell me whether these two are male/female? Four weeks old yesterday.

or is it too early to tell?

this one is smaller, both sweet but top one is much braver!

They are pullets, most likely.

Cockerels will feather in with bright white, bold bars, as males carry two barring genes.
Pullets feather in with duller, smaller bars and appear darker as they only carry one barring gene.

At 6-7 weeks the cockerels will sprout little red combs and wattles. Pullets don't show any red in the combs and don't sprout much of anything for wattles until closer to maturity. The red combs and wattles on the males are secondary sex characteristics that show very early. Not so with the pullets.

They'll look different. Very different to the trained eye. Cockerels bright and pullets dark.

Below are hatchery grade chicks.

They behave differently as well. The males stand taller, keeping watch. This will be their role one day and they start doing this at 4 weeks. They'll give you the "eye" as you approach. They "crowd" the pullets, herding them in a way that is noticeable once you see it. They often have thicker legs too. They will grow taller, more upright, while the pullets tend to stand down when the cockerel is around.

At 7 weeks, the difference is often night and day.

Are white rocks welcome here? I bought a cockerel on Saturday and I couldn't be happier with him. I normally don't mess with my roosters much. maybe a pet here and pick them up to check them over for anything that could possible be wrong with them. Well I do occasionaly hold my OEGB roosters, they are really sweet. Anyways, this guy is so calm. I think he looks beautiful. I have never owned any rocks before. He is for SQ stock. I paid $35 for him, most I have ever paid for a single rooster, but he was well worth it in my eyes. I am considering showing him. Like I said he is from SQ stock, but with not having experience with the breed, I cant say much. As far as I can tell he looks good, pretty good feather quality, filling out decent. I haven't weighed him but I am guessing he is somewhere between 9-13 lbs. How much are they suppose to way? I have yet to buy the SOP, which has been on my list for who knows how long, but every time I gather $60 i find chickens to spend it on, lol. If I can ever get a decent picture of him, I will post a picture of him.
O and I forgot that I also got a barred rock cockerel on Saturday. I will be using him in a color project that I will soon be starting.

One of my finalists..

This one here I tagged in September. I can't remember why, but he has a tail and is 14 weeks so I will give him a little longer.

and a close up of a pullet just because.

Two culls - because it's important to show those as well.

Knock kneed - or at the very least legs way too close together. This was an obvious cull because he hasn't feathered out properly and is 16 weeks old.

No tail.. Rumpless weirdo. lol

Good morning!!

I really like the leg spacing and the head size on the second K you are watching. Had to tell much more due to the pix, but from what I see he would be my pick. NICE color too.
Thanks :) Cockerel #1 has good leg spacing, but I did not load the pictures before work - so I can't share. I like the wing and tail going on on boy #1 for his age (he is 2 or 3 weeks younger than the second one).

Here is the leg spacing on my cockerel of choice, who is always MIA during picture sessions :p
