Plymouth Rock thread!

I'm getting BR chicks on Monday, and I know a heat lamp is important, but why? Chicks in the old days didn't have one. So why are they necessary? Thanks

Well in the "old day" and even today a hen will raise her chicks herself and provide them with warmth. So chicks don't need a heat lamp if raised by their mother. But I'm assuming you'll be raising your BR in a brooder so they will need a heat lamp to keep them warm. The heat lamp is basically a replacement for the mama hen.

guess what?....Snow white wasn't a Plymouth Rock after all she is a Chantaleer

My 5 month old Barred Rocks.

Braille with the brighter yellow legs and Dusty who happened to look angry when I took the picture. I raised Braille from 4 days old and I got Dusty at 4 months. Gonna use them to breed with my RIR roo to get some black sex-links.
