My 5 month old Barred Rocks. Braille with the brighter yellow legs and Dusty who happened to look angry when I took the picture. I raised Braille from 4 days old and I got Dusty at 4 months. Gonna use them to breed with my RIR roo to get some black sex-links.
I have a mixed henhouse with 5 different gals and their personalities are so different. My BR is toward the bottom of their little order and tended to be a little bit of a shrinking violet, but lately (they're about 6 weeks old) has been perching as high up in their brooder as she can climb and then when I open it, LAUNCHING herself full force out of it. She often will do it several times before settling into whatever everyone else is doing (usually trying to see what food I have brought or wandering around the bathroom investigating). Are they known to be good flyers? Should I be concerned about her hopping my 6 foot stockade once she's out and full grown?
This is Snowflake our only rock who we were told was a leghorn... luckily some helpful people on here cleared up for me the day we got her. She is very sweet and quiet. We got her a week ago and we're told she was laying every 2 to 3 days, since being here she has laid an egg 5 out of the 6 days almost exactly 26 hours apart!!!
I know I'm new at this chicken thing but I'm impressed as she is only 5 months. I'm hoping shes not just spoiling us to get us to fall in love
Sorry to interrupt - can you all point me in the direction of who is selling 'quality' BR eggs these days? Looking for nice pure lines with good barring... Thanks al...
