Cyn, I know you know this, but a true Del, of the quality you had, is 1/3 Barred Rock in composition, so this may explain the super quality we see in your young man. I've watched his photos, as you've posted them. He's dynamite and it is going to be a hoot to see what he sires with those gorgeous Stukel hens. Cannot wait to see them next spring.

ETA: You ought to see vigor like nobody's business.
You do have a point there, Fred. I didn't really consider that, the Delaware's BR heritage making Indy really more of a BR than just half on his mother's side. Vigor, I'm thrilled about. Indy is far exceeding anything I dreamed of from the cross. I was missing having my Barred Rock rooster, much as I adore Isaac, but here he is.

If you can get pictures from the side, that is better. My first impression is that they are cockerels, light coloring and no dark wash on the leg fronts, but we need to see the saddle area. I've had a cockerel colored hen that fooled even experts for awhile, so that's the only thing making me hesitate to call males for 100% sure without better pictures.

Tonight I have been looking through my Dick Horstman - Silver Penciled Plymouth Rock pictures that I have taken over the last 5 1/2 months and it is hard for me to believe that this cockerel at 3 weeks old

turned out to look like this at 5 1/2 months old. :)

The last time I got this cockerels weight was when he was 5 months old he weighed in right at 8 lbs. I have work to do with my pullets but I am very happy with the cockerel that will head one of my Silver Penciled Plymouth Rock breeding pens. :)

Ok it's hard because my barred rocks NEVER STAND STILL!!
Oh, trust me, I know exactly what you mean. That's why for every couple of photos I post, I probably delete 10-15. They are always moving because they are "chickeny-chickens", never lazy. I've probably raised a hundred or more BR cockerels, both hatchery and old time heritage stock, and none of them are easy to photograph.

oh, Fred, you may be interested in this guy as well. Cetawin owns him, hatched him from eggs I gave her. He's out of Isaac and another of my Stukel hens, my Wynette. He looks at about 5-6 weeks old to be turning out like Indy-you can tell even through the cage bars. Just look at that barring on this DelaRock! I'm sure she won't mind me showing these photos she sent me today of Iggy.
