YUP......I'll have to go by the local grocery store if/when the forecast calls for "any type of winter weather" and I'll get you guys that deal with it all the time some funny pix.....folks here truly freak out. I've seen nasty weather here last over a week only twice in my lifetime.....an ice storm back in either '73 or '74 and the blizzard of '93 (I think)....and for here that was bad, I had 17" of snow at my house in about 6 hrs

Other than that, it's normally gone in a day, maybe 2....people act like they'll be home bound for the rest of the winter, it cracks me up

Silver, rather than just posting pictures, let's use them as a learning opportunity - what do you see different from both of the lines at this age? Any size difference that you can tell (not sure when you began to weigh your horstmans)? What about feathering - is one line slower than the other? Do you see any disposition differences? Since you've got pics of both lines, it would be really neat to hear the differences and similarities that you see.

I started getting the weight of my Horstman line at 9 weeks old. I plan to start getting the weights on my Padgett line around 8 weeks of age. But I am not sure if this will be fair weights for the Padgett line as I will be growing them out at the wrong time of the year in my opinion. I will get the weights posted so we can compare the two lines as soon as I start weighing them, which should be around 4 more weeks. Let me dig up some pictures of my Horstman line at 4 weeks old so we can more easily see the difference between the two lines. :)

SR, that would be great, to be able to see them side by side.

One thing I have noticed different from my line in comparing them to PEI's line - the PEI pullets seem to have more black on the head than my line does - they all have it. All but one that I have still have one more juvie molt to go through, so I am closely watching to see if these black feathers will be molted out. So interesting.

To me the two lines look to be very similar at this age. The one thing I have noticed is the Padgett males comb are developing much quicker than the Horstman line did. I think this could be the climate from which they come from as the Padgett line from Florida and the Horstman line from Pennsylvania.
I agree it is very interesting to have two lines to compare the similarity and differences between the two. :)

OCD or that is what my wife calls it. lol

I am very particular in the cleanliness of my chickens water. I change and hand wash their water container at least 2 times a day.

I need a sink in my barn with hot water.. Yep. I'd do it once a day if I could. I do hose them out daily and scrub any dirt, but they mess it up. If you had ducks, you'd never see clean water again. :|

It's just sharing a photo, but I figure that's just fine. These are my ~16 week old Silver Pencilled Rocks enjoying some range time, hatched from eggs purchased from Larry Urban. The pullets type seems good, and two of them have excellent patterning, but they are on small side. Haven't bothered weighing lately as they'll likely be a economic casualty here. I have no idea why the cockerel is rumpless, but it is actually rumpless, not just missing tail feathers.
