Featherless boys? Hmm.. Mine have always had lots of feathering, but they take forever to get that neat colouring Silver_Rock's boy has.. But mine are half his age too. 

PS: Love his comb.



I have two very nice pencilled girls, and one with not so nice pencilling in her chest. She's also a tad smaller, so I will probably just keep her with the layers for now. I may test breed her, but if I have two nice looking girls, I will just breed them for now. 

Thank you aoxa for the nice comment on my SPPR cockerel but to be honest his Comb is one of his bad points. As he has a small Twisted in his Comb which in my opinion is not a serious problem but would cost me a 1/2 to 1 point in a Poultry Show.

That's DANGEROUS snow. I have quite a walk back to my barns, and I always worry when it begins to freeze. I sure don't heal up as quickly as I once did....also....I am not as nimble as I once was.

Congrats on getting the birds vaccinated for showing - is it done once a year, or is that a one-time deal? CONGRATS on the nice comment from the vet!

They come twice a year, June and December. They vaccinate every single one in June and the ones that were hatched after June (or acquired after June) in December. Since we only really started hatching in June for ourselves, we had a lot of birds to do.

I put about five blue PR pullet eggs in the incubator yesterday. Hope they hatch.

So hey -- anyone know how to breed for wide barring?

I'm thinking it's something I might like to try, since barred Plymouth Rocks are really easy to get around here, and there's really not many to speak of for the other kinds.

Just took a few pictures of my little flock. They are 17 weeks old now. My BR, JiJi, is really growing up. Her comb has gotten bigger and has turned a lot more pink! She's also a bit less shy with me than she used to be. Her comb has always had a little crook in it but as it's growing out it looks a tad straighter. No biggie for me at all as my little flock is just for my enjoyment and eggs. I think one of my daughters might like to show JiJi in 4H but we'll see.

I am very happy and proud to say that as of today I am a member of the Plymouth Rock Fanciers Club of America.

Today at the ABA National show in Knoxville,TN I had the pleasure of meeting John Beauchamp & Richard Hickman running the Plymouth Rock show booth. I didn't get to stay as long as I wanted. The weather forecast has freezing rain moving in tonight so I headed back home earlier than planned to beat the bad weather. But I did what I set out to do. Join the Plymouth Rock club & to meet Danny Padgett in person. Danny Padgett is a very knowledgeable poultry breeder and it was great to get to talk to him in person. Here is a picture of a very nice "Bantam" Silver Penciled Plymouth Rock that got Best Variety owned by Brian Lewis. Unfortunately there was no "Large Fowl" Silver Penciled Plymouth Rocks at the show.

This year I was just there as a spectator at the show but next year I definitely plan to enter a few of my Silver Penciled Plymouth Rocks into the "The Dixie Classic / Tennessee Valley Poultry Club" in Knoxville, TN as they will be hosting the APA National.
